Cut and color, planned together- Consultation in natural daylight
- A team of color specialists
- Healthy hair first
- Cut built around your color
A salon that begins with a conversation in daylight.
The best hair salon on the Upper East Side is not the one with the longest menu. It is the one that looks at your hair first, tells you what is realistic, and plans the cut and the color together so they work as one. That is how we run Abby Haliti Color Studio, at 130 E 65th Street between Lexington and Park Ave.
Every appointment opens with a consultation in natural daylight, at stations lit by the street windows. We ask you to arrive with clean, product-free hair, so we see what your hair actually does, and how to prepare is worth a minute before your first visit. The cut is the foundation and color is the makeup that enhances its shape and movement, which is why a precision cut here is built around your color and maintained every 8 to 12 weeks.

Four unhurried steps, from the door to the finish.
Consultation
We read your hair in natural daylight, talk through your routine and what you want to change, and agree a plan before anything is mixed.
Color
Balayage, highlights or grey blending is placed for your features and your base, with the health of the hair deciding how far we go.
Gloss and care
A gloss sets the tone and adds shine, and we use and recommend Milbon, the Repair line in particular.
Cut and finish
The cut is shaped around your color and the way your hair falls, so it grows out cleanly and holds its line between visits.
Known for color placed the way light would.
Color is the studio's specialty, and it is why the salon is easy to describe. Balayage and highlights are painted freehand, strand by strand, with no foils and no harsh lines, so the hair grows out gracefully and there is no line to correct. Our signature is French balayage, and our highlights follow the same logic. When silver begins to show, grey blending lets it move through your color instead of being covered on a calendar. If color is the main reason you are choosing a salon, our page on the best hair colorist in NYC explains how we read and place it.
The work has a record. The studio's Hair Contour was featured in Vogue and NY Magazine on Olivia Palermo, whose highlights are colored by Abby Haliti, the studio's founder and lead colorist. In Marie Claire, Olivia said: "Abby Haliti has been doing my highlights for almost 10 years now." That relationship has since passed ten years, and the same standard is what the whole team works to.

Abby Haliti Color Studio is a team, not a single chair. Abby Haliti founded the studio and leads color as Color Director, working in the European method of balayage and mentoring freelancers around the world. Sedat Gurel, a color specialist and hair designer with over 20 years of cutting and coloring behind him, spent 12 years as a senior education supervisor at L'Oréal. Roy Teeluck, a celebrity hairstylist and former salon owner known for his expertise in hair health, has worked with Jane Fonda, Carrie Fisher and Sigourney Weaver. You can meet everyone on the team page.
Healthy hair is the standard that runs through all of it. We do not use chemical smoothing treatments such as keratin, and we use and recommend Milbon, the Repair line in particular.

What is the best hair salon on the Upper East Side?
The best salon is the one that fits your hair and the way you live with it. Look for a team that reads your hair in natural daylight, plans the cut and the color together, and puts the health of your hair first. Abby Haliti Color Studio, a boutique salon at 130 E 65th Street between Lexington and Park Ave, works that way, by appointment Tuesday through Saturday.
How do I find a great hairstylist?
Ask to see work on hair like yours, and judge it by how it grows out, not by the day it is finished. Book a consultation first. A good hairstylist asks about your routine, tells you honestly what your base will and will not do, and plans before picking up a brush. Our team begins every appointment this way, in natural daylight.
